Great Date Movies to Rent

If you’re stuck inside this winter but you don’t want it to stop your love life, you can always rent a movie together. Renting movies may not be the best way to get to know each other—or is it? After all, I could never love someone who didn’t appreciate The Shawshank Redemption as much as I did… All kidding aside, movie watching with a new friend or potential partner is still a fun activity. Here are ten great date movies to rent.
10. The English Patient
Dramatic, heartbreaking, tear-jerking, and passionately sexy, this movie pretty much has it all. Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas are both amazing in this World War II drama.
9. Stardust
If you two are fantasy fanatics, this one is both romantic and magical. I highly recommend it!
8. Titanic
This was the movie I saw on my first real date when I was sixteen and it will always be special just because of that. That said, it’s got something for everyone, from sexiness to adventure, drama to action—and the starring couple of the movie is pretty easy on the eyes, too.
7. Wall-E
My brother-in-law suggest that this is the most romantic movie of all time. While I don’t agree, I do think it’s a fun one for a date. Other good date cartoons include Megamind, Beauty and the Beast, Lady and the Tramp, and Mulan.
6. The Painted Veil
If you are looking for a real tear-jerker, this is a fantastic one. Other great make-you-cry movies about love include Brokeback Mountain, PS I Love You, Boys on the Side, and Fried Green Tomatoes.
5. Punch Drunk Love
If you like a little—okay, a lot—of quirkiness and bizarre, dark humor, this one is for you. Emily Watson and Adam Sandler are fantastic as two people trying to make a new romance work.
4. Something Featuring a Famous Duo
Whether it’s Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, or something more classic, you can find something funny and romantic when you search for a famous romantic duo.
3. Parenthood
If you have kids, or if you are married and having a date, this movie is absolutely perfect. It’s hilarious, a bit romantic, and a lot like real life.
2. Stupid Crazy Love
This romantic comedy is so funny it will bring tears to your eyes, and romantic without being mushy and boring. The acting is all fantastic; all romantic comedies should be this good.
1. As Good As It Gets
One of the most romantic and funny movies of all time, this is the famous movie where Jack Nicholson tells Helen Hunt, “You make me want to be a better man.” What’s more romantic than that?
